Perfect Fan – a Dream of Every Lash Artist

🌟🌟🌟 Perfect fan – it’s a dream of every lash artist! Exactly an ideal fan creates beautiful volume eyelash extensions, perfect symmetry, an “open eye” effect and a fluffy, lightweight result.

When we work with the best lashes for eyelash extensions, the final set should look soft, balanced and elegant.

We spend hundreds of hours practicing fan making, but sometimes even after so much work it’s still difficult to achieve the perfect result. 🤯

When I judge lash championships, I see many different eyelash extensions works, many beautiful models and eyes. These works are done by different masters, but many of them can receive the maximum marks in the “Perfect Fan” category. ☝🏻

So how can you get the best marks — from a judge, from your client, and from yourself?

What Does a Perfect Fan Look Like?

Every fan has two zones:

✔ the leg of the fan
✔ the body of the fan

Understanding these zones is essential when working with lashes for eyelash extensions in UK salons.

The Leg of the Fan

🌸 The leg of the fan should be thin (not bulky) and not too long.

If the leg becomes too long, your volume eyelash extensions will start looking more like classic eyelash extensions.

The leg should be no longer than 20% of the total fan length.

The base of the fan should be perfectly closed — there should be no empty space between the lashes in the leg.

If your fan legs are opening or twisting, there are usually a few reasons.

1️⃣ Your tweezers are not good enough

If your tweezers do not close perfectly, they may damage or twist lashes.

Using the best tweezers for fans makes a huge difference when creating clean volume fans.

Your tweezers should allow you to control every single lash easily.

If you feel that your tool does not work properly — it may be time to change it.

2️⃣ The fan-making technique does not suit you

Sometimes the technique you are using simply doesn’t match your hand movement.

There are many ways to create fans, and every lash artist eventually finds the technique that works best for them.

When you find the right technique, you will start feeling the fan base much better.

3️⃣ The fan leg is too long

If you hold your fan too high with your tweezers, you lose control over the fan.

The best way is to hold the fan exactly where the leg ends and the body begins.

This helps you control the fan and create a clean base.

The Body of the Fan

🌸 The body of the fan is the part from the end of the leg to the tips of the lashes.

How should it look?

1️⃣ Optimal opening

The body of the fan should not be too wide, otherwise the lashes will cross each other.

But it should not be too closed either.

The ideal opening of a fan is about 3–7 mm.

This creates beautiful volume eyelash extensions fans with a soft fluffy look.

2️⃣ Consistency in your work

Try to create similar fans across the entire set.

One fan should not be very open while another is very narrow.

Consistency makes your work look clean and professional.

Using the best lashes for eyelash extensions, including 0.07 lashes in UK volume techniques, makes it easier to create consistent fans.

3️⃣ Fan symmetry

Symmetry is another important moment.

With 2D–5D fans it is usually easy to keep symmetry.

But when we work with 6D, 8D or even 10D volume, perfect symmetry becomes more challenging.

Of course, every 10D fan cannot be absolutely identical — otherwise the set would take 10 hours to complete! 😂

But your goal should always be to create aesthetic, balanced and beautiful fans.

Develop Your Own Fan Style

Your fans should be recognizable as yours.

They should not look like someone else’s fans.

When someone sees your work, they should immediately say:

✨ “This looks like her work.”

Some artists prefer very open fans, others prefer slightly closed fans.

Both styles can be beautiful.

The most important thing is that your work looks consistent, technical and aesthetic.

Practice Is the Key

Practice is the best way to find your perfect fan.

If you spend even two hours a day practicing fan making, in a few months your results will improve dramatically.

And of course, working with high-quality products helps a lot.

Using the best glue for eyelash extensions, together with good lashes and the best tweezers for fans, makes the work easier and improves lash retention.

🌸 Practice, patience and the right tools will help you create your ideal fan.

And remember — every master’s perfect fan is unique.
